Ethiopia to Release 4011 Inmates as Prisons Brace for Coronavirus Crisis
Ethiopia decided to release 4011 inmates to protect jails from possible coronavirus outbreaks. In a press briefing held today, Ethiopia’s general attorney, Adanech Abebe, announced that the pardoned prisoners committed low-level offenses.
The move is amongst series of measures that are being undertaken by Abiy-Ahmed administration in a bid to fight the spread of coronavirus in the East African country, which is criticized for having a very fragile health system.
Yesterday, the council of ministers, in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD), decided that government employees should work from home until further notice, effective as of March 25, 2020, .
