Top 10 African Pride Brands in 2023

Ethiopian Airlines remains the top aviation brand in Africa’s Top 10 most admired brands in 2023. The airline flies to 131 international passenger and cargo destinations, including 63 African cities. With this figure, the airline enjoys the status of flying to more destinations on the continent than any other airline in the world. Among the 14 African brands in the Top 100 globally acclaimed brands, South Africa and Nigeria hold the most significant proportion of the African countries of origin.

Alomo Bitters from Ghanaian beverage company Kasapreko Drinks dropped from 34th to 100th, a considerable drop from 2022, most likely due to its lack of publicity and accessibility in the post-COVID economy. Entrepreneurial new brands that have been there for around a decade or two, like South Africa’s Bathu in 6th place and Drip 15th, have returned for the second year when respondents are particularly asked to recall African brands. MaXhosa, a culture-based luxury apparel brand, debuts at number 10 in the rankings. MaXhosa Africa is increasing its footprint through new store openings and displays on international fashion platforms.

Dangote, MTN, and DSTv have also been included in the list. Dangote leads as the top African brands, while Safaricom/Mpesa, which shot up the rankings from 20th place to 4th as it continues to expand beyond its dominant Kenya base with the launch in the high-opportunity Ethiopian market, continue to lead the list of the most admired African brands.
