Getachew Kassaye, Ethiopia’s First Auditor, Dies

Getachew Kassaye, best known as the father of the auditing and accountancy profession in Ethiopia, has passed away yesterday. He has died at the age of mid 80s.

The accounting guru was the first ACCA qualified Ethiopian national who also established an indigenous auditing firm in Ethiopia, namely Getachew Kassaye & Co. Chartered Certified Accountants. He was also one of the founders and board-chairperson of United Insurance for a decade until 2004.

Getachew had a career in auditing and management which spans over half a century.
