Ethiopia’s Customs Revenue Exceeds Target, Hits ETB 203.75 Billion in Six Months
Ethiopia’s Customs Commission has surpassed its revenue collection target for the first half of the 2017 fiscal year, securing ETB 203.75 billion—6% more than the planned ETB 190.9 billion.
Commissioner Debele Kabeta, in a statement detailing the commission’s six-month performance, attributed the revenue to customs duties, excise taxes, VAT, and other tax and non-tax sources. He emphasized that 106% of the target had been achieved, reflecting improved enforcement and compliance efforts.
In addition to revenue collection, the commission intensified its anti-smuggling and trade fraud measures, preventing losses worth ETB 107.24 billion.
