Dashen Bank Recognized for Financial Inclusivity in East Africa

Dashen Bank, one of Ethiopia’s leading financial institutions, has been honored as the Best Bank for Financial Inclusiveness in East Africa at the 2024 Africa Bank 4.0 Summit in Nairobi, Kenya. This award recognizes Dashen Bank’s innovative efforts to expand access to financial services for underserved populations across the region.

“This award is a testament to Dashen Bank’s commitment to ensuring financial inclusion for all,” said Asfaw Alemu, CEO of Dashen Bank. “We are grateful to our valued partners Ethio-Telecom, EagleLion System Technologies, and Ethiopian Airlines, whose collaborative efforts have enabled us to deliver impactful financial solutions to our customers.”

Dashen Bank’s micro-lending service, offered in partnership with Ethio-Telecom, has provided crucial access to credit for entrepreneurs and small business owners in diverse sectors across Ethiopia. The bank’s “Dube-Ale” buy-now-pay-later scheme, developed with EagleLion, and the “Fly Now-Pay-later” program with Ethiopian Airlines, have further expanded financial accessibility for Dashen’s customers.

In addition to this regional recognition, Dashen Bank has also been honored globally, receiving the International Finance Corporation’s award for Outstanding Global Trade Finance Program Issuing Bank. The bank’s interest-free “Sharik” banking service was also recently commended.
