Tigray Declares State of Emergency over COVID-19
State of Tigray, one of the nine autonomous regional states in Ethiopia, has officially declared state of emergency today to contain the spread of COVID-19.
While details of the state of emergency will be disclosed by Debretsion Gebremichael (PhD) tomorrow, President of Tigray, the council of the region, chaired by him, has already approved a bill to put the decree into effect.
No coronavirus case has been confirmed in Tigray and other eight nine regional states as well as Dire Dawa so far. Nonetheless, 12 cases are confirmed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as of today, while nine people are waiting for their lab results. Until today, Ethiopia tested 576 people for the coronavirus.
