Ethiopia Exports More Coffee despite Global Trade Disruptions
Ethiopia’s export earnings from coffee keep portraying unanticipated growth despite the impact of COVID-19 on global trade activities.
The country exported USD96.5 million worth of coffee last month. This is 5Pct high compared to the same period last year.
In terms of volume, close to 27,000 tons of coffee was exported during the same month, a 4.5Pct rise on exports during the same period the previous year. This is attributed to an increase in household consumption of coffee in Europe, coupled with the growth in demand for raw coffee in fear of future impacts of the coronavirus.
Future contracts are also on the rise, which will allow the country export more coffee in the months ahead.
