Central Bank Marks Deadline for Old Currency to Oust
The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) announced there are only 12 days left to transact with the old currency notes. After the 12 days, people can bring the old notes to banks and change it with the new ones, but cannot transact with it.Government introduced new currency, including a new note valuing 200, on September 14, 2020. The operation to inject the new currency notes into circulation and mop out the old notes from the economy, was slated to take three months, which will be by December 14,2020. Although there are 25 days for the three months span, transacting with the old notes will end by December 01, 2020, according to NBE notification today.
