Addis Ababa to herald Leather Congress

The fifth World Leather Congress and International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Society IULTCS is set to feature Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa, from November 1 to 5, 2021. Ethiopia was picked for the event, after fulfilling various requirements among interested peer African countries. The annual episode was skipped in 2020, due to covid19.

Substantial number of leather industries have shifted their factories to producing face mask and sanitizer since the pandemic, according to Teka Gebreyessus, state Minister of Trade and Industry, speaking during a press brief on July 29, 2021. Ethiopia, a country with the largest cattle population in Africa, recently named Modjo, a town 80 kilometer from the capital, a leather city.

More than 250 international leather manufacturers from 25 countries, over 5,000 sourcing industries and professionals are expected at the exhibition, among others. The main objective of the exhibition and meetings, is to link African leather producers with international buyers, investors, researchers and promoters.
