African countries exported USD476.6 billion dollars of goods in2018, 12.8Pct higher than the 2017 average. The figure is however 11.3Pct lower than the aggregate export earnings of 2014. In comparison, global exports from all countries worldwide equaled USD19.2 trillion in 2018, of which Africa’s export represent an estimated 2.5Pct.While the top 10 African exporters accounted for over three-quarters (76.4Pct) of all international product from Africa during 2018, South Africa, Nigeria and Angola, the top three exporters alone accounted for nearly 40Pct of the continent’s export revenue.
Ethiopia, on the other hand, represents 0.6Pct of Africa’s exports. In the last seven years, it earned an average of three billion dollars from annual exports. Over the last ten months alone, the country earned USD2.1 billion, eight percent lower than the amount registered in the same period last year.
