Inadequate infrastructure continues to undermine the competitiveness of African countries in the global arena. Despite being blessed with ample mineral and other natural resources, the continent has the lowest infrastructural development in the world in areas like energy, water, sanitation, transportation, and communications technology.According to the African Infrastructure Development Index 2017 report published by the African Development Bank, Seychelles, Egypt, Libya and South Africa are the leading countries in infrastructure development. On the other hand, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Tanzania and Chad are among the countries with the lowest infrastructure development.
Ethiopia was in the bottom five countries in 2017, ranked 48th in Africa, despite being the fastest growing country in Africa and one of countries that has heavily invested in infrastructure development over the past ten years, according to the report.
