The number of government officials and other high ranking appointees that have so far registered their assets as required by the asset disclosure and registration proclamation issued in March 2010, according to the Federal Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission ten month report. The proclamation obliges appointees and elected persons to disclose and register assets under their ownership or that of their family.

The Commission began implementing the Proclamation by registering the asset of high-ranking government officials including the former Prime Minister Meles Zenawi in 2011 in order to prevent corruption in advance, accelerate investigations against corruption and create public trust. Currently, the Commission is undertaking activities to implement a system to make available the registered information of the civil servants’ assets to the public through a computerized system.
