“We are not doing the right thing because of [the] requests [of] Egyptians; we are doing the right thing because we are acting under international rules and principles.”

The Foreign Minister said this to an Egyptian journalist who asked what his message to the Egyptian people is concerning the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, at the end of the fifth Ethio-Egyptian Joint Ministerial Commission meeting held from November 1-3, 2014 in Addis Ababa.

During the three-day meeting, the two parties signed a cooperation agreement on various issues, including trade and education.

Alongside the minsters’ meeting, a joint business forum, which brought together about 100 business people from both countries, was held on November 2, 2014. The two sides said the meeting was successful and scheduled their next ministerial meeting for 2016 in Egypt. In addition to issues that revolve around the common interest of the two countries, they also addressed the political situation in countries like Somalia, South Sudan, Libya, Burkina Faso and Palestine. Resolving the conflicts facing these countries through peaceful means was the agreed upon approach by both countries.
