Caterpillar Introduces New Generators to Ethiopian Market

Caterpillar Inc., a US-based construction, mining machinery and engines producing company, has introduced its high capacity Caterpillar generators for the Ethiopian market on April 22, 2015, at a ceremony held at the Sheraton hotel. The company is distributing their goods through an exclusive deal with Ries Engineering S.C.

The new Caterpillar generators have a capacity that range from 6.5kva (kilo vault amps) to 220kva. The new products can be used by residences, hospitals, hotels and factories, according to the company.

“For decades we have been selling Caterpillar generators built with Perkin engine motors; however now we are introducing new range generators with Caterpillar engines.” said Fekadu Mengistu, deputy managing director of Ries, at the ceremony.

“We are successful in Kenya and Nigeria with the new product and we expect the same demand from the growing Ethiopian economy,” said Stefan Laszewski, business development and electric power territory manager of Caterpillar, Inc.

In addition to its stores in Addis Ababa and Mekele, Ries also built new branches in Bahir Dar, Dire Dawa and Hawasa in 2014, according to Fekadu. Generators cover 15Pct of Ries’s total import, which ranges from pickup trucks and automobiles to earth moving machinery.
